Chadli joins Anderlecht on loan from Monaco

Belgium international Nacer Chadli has joined Anderlecht on a season-long loan from Ligue 1 side Monaco.

The 30-year-old arrived at the Stade Louis II from West Brom ahead of the 2018-19 campaign but was restricted to just 22 appearances in all competitions.

He was an unused substitute for the opening-day defeat to Lyon on Friday and will now link up with Belgium team-mate Vincent Kompany, who took over as Anderlecht s player-manager in May, with Monaco confirming the loan deal on their official website.

Former Manchester City captain Kompany has endured a difficult start to the season with his side picking up just two points from their opening three Belgian First Division A games.

Chadli, who has made 51 appearances for Belgium, has also enjoyed spells w…

Alashkert 0-0 Rangers (0-1 agg): COVID-hit visitors scrape through to Europa League group stage

Rangers are through to the Europa League group stage for a fourth successive season after drawing 0-0 away at 10-man Alashkert on Thursday to progress 1-0 on aggregate.

Alfredo Morelos missed a hat-trick of big chances against Alashkert – who played more than 45 minutes with 10 men after James was dismissed – though the Colombian s goal in last week s first leg ultimately proved the difference.

The Gers were without manager Steven Gerrard, skipper James Tavernier and five others due to a coronavirus outbreak in their camp, but they were on top in the first half at Nairi Marzadasht.

Joe Aribo s curling drive was touched on to the post by Ognjen Cancarevic, either side of Morelos firing over when played through and being denied by the Alashkert goalkeeper fro…

´We need to be more aggressive´ – Koke rallies Atletico after Leverkusen loss

Koke has urged Atletico Madrid to be more aggressive following their Champions League defeat by Bayer Leverkusen at BayArena.

Diego Simeone s side suffered their first loss in this season s competition, after the hosts struck twice in the final six minutes of the Group B clash.

With the contest heading for a stalemate, Robert Andrich fired Leverkusen ahead before Moussa Diaby rounded off a quickfire counter to seal the points.

Atletico have now lost seven of their last eight Champions League away games in Germany, where you must go back to a 1-0 victory over FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the 1961-62 Cup Winners Cup for their most recent clean sheet.

Waldschmidt wins Germany call-up as Draxler misses out

Luca Waldschmidt has won a maiden senior call-up for Germany s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Netherlands and Northern Ireland, although Paris Saint-Germain winger Julian Draxler is an injury absentee.

Waldschmidt won the Golden Boot as the Germany Under-21 team finished runners-up to Spain at the European Championship in June, on the back of scoring nine Bundesliga goals for Freiburg in 2018-19.

The 22-year-old has flown out of the blocks this term, netting two in two top-flight appearances.

Draxler started PSG s first two Ligue 1 games this season but missed the 4-0 win over Toulouse with a foot injury that rules him out – further depleting Joachim Low s wide attacking options following Leroy Sane s knee ligament injury.

Low has selected Borussia Dort…

Vancouver Whitecaps 11/10 to beat Austin in Sunday’s MLS showdown

Market: Vancouver Whitecaps win

Odds: 11/10 @

Smelling a chance to extend on what has become a real MLS purple patch, Vancouver will welcome Austin to BC Place in the early hours of Sunday.

Starting with the hosts, while Vancouver might have opened the 2021 campaign in the midst of a real struggle, the Whitecaps have bounced back in some style. Opening the weekend s fixtures sat just a single point adrift of breaking into the Western Conference Final Series spots, they have really found their feet under interim boss Vanni Sartini. Gaining a string of plaudits and skyrocketing their way up the table, the Caps were last seen laying down another marker. Putting on what was a rampant display on home soil, the Canadian outfit stormed their way to a 4-1 romp at BC Pl…

Do the stats show us who the best striker is?

Best finisher in the Premier League?

Who is the best striker in England at the moment? Most people would say Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie would take some beating and I would agree with them.

Interesting

Sky Sports, with Opta, have looked at the stats for strikers in the Premier League so far this season and they make interesting reading.

They have come up with a top ten list for strikers in relation to goals per attempt at goal. In other words, they are looking at who is the best finisher as opposed to who scores the most goals.

Just

Interestingly, neither Drogba or Rooney make the top ten list. Torres comes in fourth and van Persie just makes the list in tenth place.

So who is the player who sco…

Lyon dismiss Gervinho link

Lyon have dismissed speculation that Gervinho is on the verge of signing for the club, .

The Ligue 1 side were said to have been planning a swap deal with Arsenal, which would have seen Yoann Gourcouff move in the opposite direction on loan, with a view to a permanent deal.

However, manager Remi Garde, who incidentally won the double with the Gunners in 1998, has distanced himself from reports linking his side with the Ivory Coast international.

He told French paper Le Progres: “I’ve heard that Lyon is interested in Gervinho, but Gervinho is a striker, and we have young and very good strikers already at the club”.

The 26 year old has failed to make a real impression at Arsenal since arriving at the club in 2011, scoring just nine goals in for…

Raoul Loe returns to Osasuna

La Liga strugglers Osasuna have announced the signing of Cameroonian midfielder Raoul Loe on their official website.

The 28-year-old has signed a deal until the end of the season after he successfully canceled his contract at Al Sailiya of Qatar.

Loe thus returns to the club where he had made a name for himself, featuring in 50 La Liga games and another 33 in Segunda Division.

The Cameroon midfielder left Osasuna to move to Qatar in the summer of 2015, but recently decided to return to Europe.

Los Rojillos will be hoping that Loe can help the team avoid relegation to Segunda, which is clearly a tall order considering they are now eight points adrift of safety.

Osasuna did show some improvement of late, sharing spoils with Valencia, Granada and Ma…
